Syrian Central Bank Governor Mohammad Raslan said the Syrian market is fully prepared to adopt modern electronic banking services and financial technologies, stressing that financial-sector stability and innovation are complementary objectives that do not conflict.
Speaking at the Jordan FinTech Festival, Raslan said innovation and the localization of modern financial technologies are key tools for strengthening the central bank’s and regulatory authorities’ ability to manage markets and promote overall financial discipline.
Raslan said Syria’s banking sector faces an urgent need to implement digital solutions, particularly amid significant changes in customer behavior and expectations over recent years.
He noted that the return of many professionals and citizens from abroad, bringing new expertise and expectations regarding banking services, requires the domestic market to keep pace with these developments and overcome the technological stagnation that has affected the sector over the past 10 to 15 years.
Raslan stressed that digital transformation and the expansion of electronic services will play a central role in supporting the Syrian Central Bank’s regulatory functions, enabling it to carry out effective oversight and implement legal and regulatory frameworks more efficiently.
He concluded by emphasizing that financial innovation is not merely a luxury, but a fundamental pillar for building a resilient banking sector capable of maintaining stability and upholding the rule of law across financial transactions.
