Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Imad Hijazin said hosting Jordan’s Mixed Martial Arts Week represents a significant step toward using sports to strengthen Jordan’s position as a tourism destination, reach new markets and audiences, and turn global interest in the championship into sustainable tourism and economic opportunities.
Hijazin made the remarks during a press conference at the Fairmont Amman Hotel to launch the DF UNCAGED championship. The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of terrorism.
He explained that holding the championship at the Roman Theatre, with activities extending to the Dead Sea and the Citadel, reflects an approach that combines sports with Jordan’s cultural and natural heritage. The initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience, encourage longer stays, and benefit various components of the tourism sector.
The championship is being organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board as part of efforts to diversify the country’s tourism offerings and strengthen Jordan’s presence on the international sports events map.
The press conference was attended by a group of prominent international fighters and coaches, including renowned coach Javier Mendez, who praised the exceptional level of organization and Jordanian hospitality.
The events will continue with open training sessions at the Dead Sea on October 28, followed by the official weigh-in ceremony at the Citadel on October 29, leading up to the main fights at the Roman Theatre on October 30. The event brings together international sports and Jordan’s distinctive tourism identity.
