German Hapag-Lloyd: Imposing Fees on Hormuz Transit Would Be a Grave Mistake

Updated:

German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd said on Tuesday that imposing fees on transit through international waters “would be a grave mistake.” The statement follows remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said he would reinstate the naval blockade on Iran and impose a 20% tariff on all shipments transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

The company told Reuters that it cannot accurately determine the financial impact of the tensions in the Gulf region on its business.
