Brisk Activity in the Exchange Market

Updated:

Firas Marwan Sultan, representative of the financial and banking sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that the money exchange market is currently experiencing brisk activity. This momentum is driven by an influx of tourism from Arab countries, the continuous flow of remittances from Jordanians working abroad, and the return of expatriates for their summer vacations.

Sultan told the Jordan Gazette Agency (Petra) that Arab tourism and the return of Jordanian expatriates to spend their holidays in the Kingdom have boosted demand for exchange services and increased currency conversions, reflecting positively on the market’s overall activity and dynamism.

He pointed out that expatriate remittances serve as one of the most vital sources of cash inflow to the Kingdom, playing a key role in enhancing market liquidity, supporting economic activity, and driving demand for the Jordanian Dinar.

According to statistical data from the Central Bank of Jordan, remittances from Jordanians working abroad maintained high levels, growing by 14.5% during the first five months of this year to reach approximately $2.1 billion. This highlights their ongoing contribution to supporting domestic demand and the balance of payments.

Sultan emphasized that the vibrant activity in the exchange market reflects stability and confidence in the national economy, noting that exchange companies continue to fulfill the needs of citizens and visitors by efficiently providing necessary financial services.

The national economy recorded a real growth of 2.9% during the first quarter of this year, outperforming previous expectations.
