Iraq: “Haditha–Aqaqba Pipeline” Under Study
Spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, Salim Al-Rikabi, stated that the Ministry of Oil—through the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO)—has contracted with companies to purchase fuel oil products “ex-depot” and export them via the Port of Aqaba through Jordanian territory.
Al-Rikabi added in statements to “Al-Mamlaka” that the quantities of fuel oil exported through Jordan are “not fixed,” explaining that they depend on the number of tanker trucks, security permits, and the situation at the Port of Aqaba.
The Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) announced in May and June 2026 the offering of fuel oil quantities for export, provided that the product is transported by tank trucks through available land border crossings. Meanwhile, the company’s report on March 2026 exports indicated the resumption of fuel oil exports by land using tanker trucks.
Haditha–Aqaba Pipeline
Regarding the Haditha–Aqaba oil pipeline project, Al-Rikabi stated that “the issue of the pipeline is currently still under study.”
The total length of the Basra–Aqaba oil pipeline project reaches 1,600 kilometers. It includes laying the first section of the pipeline within Iraqi territory (Rumaila–Haditha) over a distance of approximately 700 km with a design capacity of 2.25 million barrels, and laying the second section inside Jordanian territory (Haditha–Aqaba) over a distance of 900 km with a design capacity of one million barrels.
