Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei said direct flights between Amman and Beijing could be launched before the end of the year, describing direct air connectivity as a step that would boost tourism, investment and trade between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Chinese Embassy, Guo said launching direct flights as soon as possible would help increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Jordan and encourage Chinese companies to expand their presence and investments in the Kingdom.
The remarks follow the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Beijing between Royal Jordanian Airlines and Air China during King Abdullah II’s visit to China. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two carriers and improve air connectivity between the two countries.
The memorandum allows the airlines to explore launching new routes and opportunities for codeshare arrangements and reciprocal transportation agreements, as well as cooperation in training, ground services, air cargo and inflight catering.
Royal Jordanian Chairman and CEO Samer Majali said the memorandum marked an important step toward strengthening the national carrier’s presence in China and the Far East. Air China Chairman Zhou Guangji said his company would provide its “full support” to Royal Jordanian in launching nonstop direct flights between Amman and Beijing.
According to both sides, the move would help boost tourism, business and cultural exchanges while strengthening economic and trade relations between Jordan and China.
