Al-Hussein Bin Talal University (AHU) has achieved a new academic and institutional milestone by securing the “MED-BALKAN AI EDU” project under the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme—specifically within the Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Strand 1.
This achievement strengthens the university’s presence in international academic collaboration and supports its strategic direction toward integrating modern technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) into its educational ecosystem.
The project, which will be implemented over 24 months with a total budget of 400,000 euros, aims to build the capacity of higher education institutions and enhance their pedagogical practices.
It focuses on leveraging AI applications in education, developing digital teaching methods and digital pedagogy, and fostering structured academic cooperation among participating universities and institutions.
These efforts are intended to improve the quality of education, establish sustainable institutional capabilities, and expand opportunities for engagement in international projects and programmes.
The President of Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, Professor Atef Al-Kharabsheh, emphasized that winning this international project represents a significant achievement, reflecting the university’s growing academic and institutional standing, as well as its capacity to compete and participate effectively in international programmes.
He noted that this success aligns with the university’s vision to keep pace with the rapid transformations in the higher education sector by embracing innovation and modern technology foremost among them, artificial intelligence applications. Al-Kharabsheh added that the university places great importance on developing its institutional and educational capabilities, enhancing the quality of its academic outcomes, and engaging with leading international practices.
He emphasized that participating in such projects provides significant opportunities for exchanging expertise and knowledge, developing competencies, and building sustainable academic partnerships.
This, in turn, positively impacts the university’s educational and research environment and strengthens its ability to fulfill its mission: preparing qualified professionals equipped to meet the demands of the future.
For his part, Professor Hasan Abdullah Al-Dajah, Director of the International Relations Department at the university, explained that the “MED-BALKAN AI EDU” project is a specialized initiative aimed at capacity-building within higher education institutions.
It focuses on developing AI-supported educational practices, fostering digital transformation, and facilitating the exchange of institutional and academic expertise among the participating universities.
Al-Dajah noted that the project brings together academic institutions from several European and Arab countries. The University of Pristina (Kosovo) serves as the coordinating institution, with other partners from Portugal, Lithuania, Kosovo, Egypt, and Jordan including Al-Balqa Applied University and Al-Hussein Bin Talal University.
This collaboration creates a dynamic international environment for sharing knowledge and experience, as well as leveraging modern educational practices.
He also commended the efforts of Ms. Rab’a Abu Hilaleh from the International Relations Department for her role in coordinating and following up on the project until its successful acquisition.
He added that the project’s significance extends beyond the development of educational tools and practices; it also enhances the readiness of academic institutions to participate in international cooperation programs and establishes a more sustainable foundation for future partnerships and projects.
He emphasized that the Department of International Relations continues its efforts to strengthen the university’s presence in European and international programs, while providing high-quality opportunities that contribute to capacity building and open new horizons for its academic and administrative staff.
This achievement marks a significant step forward in Al-Hussein Bin Talal University’s journey toward enhancing its international competitiveness, advancing its educational system in alignment with the requirements of modern higher education, and solidifying its position as an active academic institution one dedicated to building knowledge and leveraging technology and innovation to serve the advancement of education and development.
