Minister of Transport and Labor Dr. Nidal Al-Katamine and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Eng. Yarub Qudah met today at the Ministry of Transport with representatives from the shipping, logistics, customs clearance sectors, and the Amman Chamber of Commerce to discuss urgent measures to enhance the flow of cargo through Aqaba Port and border crossings. The meeting aimed to ensure the continuity of supply chains and transit movement, particularly through the Karameh border crossing with Iraq, amid current regional circumstances.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Fares Abu Dayyeh, and the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh, alongside heads and members of the Jordan Shipping Association, the Logistics Association, the Customs Clearance and Cargo Transport Syndicate, as well as the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Commerce. Participants reviewed the key operational challenges facing import, export, and transit movements, agreeing on a package of measures to overcome obstacles and accelerate the flow of goods.
Attendees emphasized the necessity of expediting customs clearance and inspection procedures, reducing vessel wait times at Aqaba Port, and shortening container dwell times. These steps aim to enhance the efficiency of logistical operations, reduce costs for importers and exporters, and boost Aqaba Port’s competitiveness as a primary hub for regional trade and transit services.
Both ministers stressed the importance of continued coordination between various government entities and private sector institutions. They called for swift executive measures to address any impediments affecting the smooth movement of goods, ensuring a sustainable flow of commodities and maintaining the readiness of the transport and logistics ecosystem to meet current demands.
