Jordan and Japan Launch Joint Mechanism to Boost Investment and Economic Cooperation

Updated:

Meeting between Dana Al-Zoubi, Secretary-General of Jordan’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, and Tomoko Watanabe, Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Jordan.

Jordan and Japan discussed ways to strengthen economic and investment cooperation on Thursday during the first meeting of the Jordan–Japan Working Group, held in Amman.

The meeting was convened to implement the understandings reached during His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to Japan in November 2025.

The meeting was chaired on the Jordanian side by Dana Al-Zoubi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, and on the Japanese side by Tomoko Watanabe, Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Jordan.

It was attended by representatives from government agencies in both countries as well as Japanese institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), in addition to Japanese companies operating in Jordan.

Al-Zoubi said the meeting aims to translate the outcomes of His Majesty’s visit into practical steps that strengthen economic and investment cooperation and expand public-private partnerships between the two countries.

She added that Jordan continues to implement economic reforms, improve the business environment, and address challenges facing investors, thereby enhancing the Kingdom’s attractiveness as an investment destination.

Participants discussed ways to improve the business and investment climate, strengthen transparency, showcase investment opportunities, and reinforce Jordan’s position as a regional hub for industry, services, and reconstruction efforts in neighboring countries.

The two sides agreed to hold annual meetings of the joint committee and working group meetings every four months to monitor the implementation of recommendations and address challenges facing investors.

Both parties emphasized that the working group will serve as a platform for dialogue between the public and private sectors, supporting existing Japanese investments in Jordan while attracting new investment to the Kingdom.
