Land Freight Traffic Rises 23.6% in the First Quarter of the Year

Land freight traffic rose by 23.6% during the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of last year, according to the Ministry of Transport.

According to Ministry of Transport data viewed by Al Mamlaka, total freight traffic reached 9,440,943 tons in the first quarter of this year, compared to 7,640,864 tons in the first quarter of 2025.

The data showed that the volume of imported goods during the first quarter of this year increased by 14.2% to reach 4,888,949 tons, compared to 4,282,593 tons in 2025. Meanwhile, the volume of exported goods rose by 35.5% to reach 4,551,994 tons during the first quarter of 2026, compared to 3,358,271 tons in the first quarter of last year.

As for passenger traffic through all land border crossings, it increased during the same period by 19.6% to reach 2,953,768 passengers in the first quarter of 2026, compared to 2,469,461 passengers in the first quarter of last year.

According to the data, incoming and outgoing truck traffic through all border centers rose by 11.9%. The number of trucks in the first quarter of this year reached 318,537, compared to 284,575 trucks during the same period last year.

Regarding the public transport fleet (buses, medium-sized passenger vehicles, small passenger cars, and taxis), their number increased by 0.14% during the first quarter of 2026 to reach 41,724 vehicles, compared to 41,667 vehicles during the first quarter of last year.
